Thanks so much, everyone! I'm beginning to feel like myself again, though I've still got quite a bit of residual stuffiness which has affected my sense of taste and smell.

Droelma - the problem I ran into with the lobster bisque was that it got too concentrated. My parents called just after I put the lobster meat into the bisque and I forgot to turn the heat off while I spoke to them. By the time I got back I was left with an overly-salty soup and tough lobster. Disappointing, but I'll give it another shot!

Alicia - Brandade is a mixture of softened salt cod and potato that is baked in a crock and served on toasts. It's tasty! As for the smoker, we have a Cameron Indoor Smoker (see here). We love it. And we did make it to Blue Hill, which was wonderful though I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more had I been able to taste more of my food! We've not been to Stone Barns but will hopefully make it up there soon.

claudia - that dish was our spin on something we saw David Bouley do on Chef's Story on PBS, little roulades of salmon filled with an herb/lemon zest mixture, cooked in the stovetop smoker, and served with a sauce of creme fraiche, lemon juice, salmon roe and American caviar. It was as delicious as it was beautiful - definitely something special.

To all of you, new and old readers alike, thanks for your comments and we wish you and yours a very happy New Year!

Happy Holidays to you and your husband. And happy birthday! I hope you feel better soon...

What is brandade, exactly? I've never heard of that before. The pictures of the food look so delicious. I especially loved the photo of the stuffed fridge and the feature that lets you know exactly what's in all of those packages. Did you guys make your own smoker?

Did you get to Blue Hill? It's definitely one of my favorite restaurants. I'm not sure if they still do the flight dessert but I took my husband there for Valentine's awhile back and it was amazing. Have you guys been to Stone Barns in Tarrytown? I'm dying to go...

Hi Jen,

Hope you are feeling better. I stumbled upon your blog a couple of months ago and have been faithfully reading both archives and new additions. I'm amazed and inspired by your creative cooking and life in NYC...................so different from my housewife life in the burbs of Virginia.

I look forward to another year of Last Night's Supper. All the best to you and Mike and the kitties in 2008!

Peace,
Margaret

I just discovered your blog on the 14th of December ( my birthday ) when I had to lay really low due to emergency back surgery on the 6th.
Your blog is wonderful and makes mindless prescription drug enhanced blog surfing almost worthwhile....it's is really great !
I hope you have a wonderful birthday....even if you are not feeling your best , I wish you great enjoyment of this special evening......

Felicidades.....

PS: I am curious to hear what you thought was wrong with your Lobster Bisque.......
